INERTIA DYNO WITH LOAD SENSING HYDRAULICS

The Ultimate Dyno!

Load-Sensing Hydraulics is a technology that was patented in 2005’. It allows you to drastically load an engine with a pressure compensated needle valve system or change the displacement of the pump with one or both knobs of the control valves. I had an electrically controlled hydraulic loading system and the down-fall was the electric clutch that connects the dyno axle to the pump. The electrically controlled system worked fairly well as long as you didn’t abuse the load system. But now with the Load-Sensing Hydraulics, we can read horsepower and torque by using a pressure transducer even though inertia dynos are much more accurate for tuning. With this being a direct drive pump, there is zero slippage! If this pump could run at its perfect rpm, it can kill a 100 hp motor, proving that it will load most small race engines to any head or exhaust temp and it can also be used to break in engines or cycle the temperatures. You need to heat them up to a certain head/exhaust/crankcase temp and cool them down, over and over. We did an inertia test on this pump and it takes 2 ½ to 3 hp over an engine’s entire rpm range. That’s why we made it so the pump can be slid back and totally disconnected from the dyno axle. This takes less than a couple of minutes. It has a 2” suction line and a 50 gallon per minute return filter. We installed a large Hydra-Cooler for doing large engines over several minutes, and in order to keep the hydraulic oil below a certain temperature. (Note that fluids cool about 10 times faster than air.) Hook it up to a garden hose inlet and run another hose off the output to your water drain in your shop. We can install a large Ultra Torque starting system which cranks these large flywheels easily. We can also install a large tooth belt drive system which allows for a much larger range of ratio belt drivers for all the different 2 & 4-cycle engines that you come across in the future. We also installed extra belts so if one is breaks, there’s a spare waiting to be used. Locking casters can move the dyno around in your shop and then lock it down when you are ready to run the dyno. I recommend using the “Pro” data system with internal S.A.E. weather correction. This dyno is to be used on water cooled 125 cc Shifter Karts, Rotax, Yamaha and 4-cycle Hondas. We had several different custom lightweight belt drivers made for this application including an internally splined belt driver for the shifter kart engine. Some of these engines have a maximum hp of about 45 although a much smaller version can be made for the 4-cycle or lower 2-cycle engines.
